Exciting New Service - TRAVEL MEDICINE Feb 21 2017 Island Bay Medical Centre is excited to announce our new Travel Clinic. Appointments are now available. On top of normal appointment availability - for your convenience there is an evening travel clinic available on a Wednesday once per month for those of you that would like to come after work. Amelia Radford, one of practice nurses will be leading this travel clinic in conjunction with our doctors. Amelia is well qualified with a post graduate diploma in Travel Medicine. Our consultations will include information regarding travel safety, health information and if required, vaccinations and medications. If you are planning an overseas trip and need travel advice or vaccinations please note the following:- It would also be useful if you could complete a pre travel questionnaire before your appointment. (Questionnaire can be found on the home page by script orders) It is important that the questionnaire is filled out entirely. If there are multiple family members or friends travelling with you then each person travelling will need to complete their own questionnaire. As much detail as possible on the forms is essential particularly in regards to how you are travelling, the type of accommodation you are staying in and where you are going within each country (i.e. name the cities or towns you are travelling to). Once you have completed our questionnaire, you can email this to travel@ibmc.co.nz - Amelia will then review the information, and get in touch with you to book an appointment. This will usually take about 2 working days, however larger groups or complicated travel plans may take longer. If you have a record or copy of vaccines previously given it is useful for us to know this prior to your appointment, similarly if you have seen another health professional about your upcoming trip, so we know what they may have already arranged for you. If you have an immunisation booklet for travel vaccines, please bring this with you to your appointments so that we can update it for you ready for travel. If you have a complex medical history you may be required to see your Doctor and Amelia. Please note:- the cost of vaccines if required is additional to the cost of your appointment, however in some circumstances you may not require any vaccinations. Please feel free to contact us with any questions via phone or email regarding prices or concerns. If you are travelling to an area where Yellow Fever is required, you will be advised to attend another clinic. We look forward to hearing about your travel plans, and assisting you to travel and return safely.
The Day in the Bay Feb 13 2017 This past weekend was the beginning of the 33rd Island Bay Festival.Saturday was a magnificent day (some say the best we have had all summer) The Parade was lined with people waiting and watching for the people and floats to go by and the park was full of families enjoying the sunshine and entertainment. Sadly Sunday did not fare so well with the weather - although is stayed fine the wind did play a big part in the turn out. The northerly was consistent all day.The Medical Centre had a stand in the park offering free health advice, blood pressures and blood sugar tests. We also had a well patronised the slip, slop, slap and wrap free sun screen available which was gratefully supplied by the Wellington Cancer Society. I think the star of our stand was one of the Doctors little vintage Fiat Bambina. We likened this little car to our own health. It is so important to look after our bodies in the same way as the little bambina has been cared for - a well looked after oiled machine. The Doctors, nurses and staff look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Phone Message not updated Jan 13 2017 Our sincere apologies to those that rung the medical centre over the Christmas/New Year holiday's and got wrong information. We updated our opening hours on our website and put a notice on our door and front window but forgot about the answerphone. In the past the phone always got diverted to After Hours which covered this side things. For 2016/17 there was a change in plan and calls were not to be diverted. Sadly there was an oversight by us about the message on our answerphone. Once again our apologies
